Dota 2 over the weekend has broke a major goal in the eSports community!! So far the TI5 prize pool has reached $11.4 million and is still raising daily with almost 34 days left for it to continue. Valve has contributed $1.6 million into the pot, while the rest has been from players making purchase of special in-game items. This is perhaps moving eSports and more importantly Dota2 into a more respectable place in the sports community. In comparison this prize pool so far is $9 million more than what was given out at last years golf Masters tournament, although it still lags behind a lot of major sporting events.
The way the Compendium works is pretty simple actually and is a great way to give back to the competitive gamers who are trying to make a living off this scene. As you purchase the Compendium from the cash shop and level it up, the money goes toward the prize pool and you gain prizes. Collectively, the more the community spends on the Compendium the more they unlock for everyone.
The $14 million stretch goal is looking mighty interesting as it contains brand new weather effects for game maps. I don’t know how well that would affect the actual matches but it would be really cool to see that make the cut. Of course, I did kind of skip over the $13 million stretch goal, which is a new Bristleback announcer pack.
