Above is the breakdown of the Dota 2 Ti5 Prize pool. Currently the total prize pool amount is $17,362,259, which is not just a hell of a lot of money, it’s also a world record amount. Currently Dota 2 holds the top 3 spots, soon to be the top 4 spots, for the highest prize pools in eSports history. As of today the top 3 largest prize pools are as follows.
1. The international 2014, coming in at $10,931,103.00 consisted of 14 teams and 70 players.
2. DAC 2015, coming in at $3,057,521.00 consisted of 20 teams and 100 players.
3. The International 2013, coming in at $2,874,407.00 consisted of 8 teams and 40 players.
It still baffles my mind as to why League of Legends is unable to obtain a larger prize pool, they have the largest following by far, yet their tournaments barely compare to other major eSporting events. Perhaps they need to try and take a page out of Dota 2s book and setup something like a compendium for their next major tournament and see if they are able to set some records of their own.
Ti5 will be an event you certainly don’t want to miss, it is sure to be packed full of action as the 16 teams battle it out for the largest prize pool in history. You can find the official Ti5 schedule here.
